Fundraising for DFN
In addition to making donations to the work of DFN UK and sponsoring the education of Dalit children, there are many other ways in which you can raise funds. Here are a few ideas.
[fundraising events]
From concerts to comedy evenings, charity dinners in India restaurants to frugal meals, car boot sales to promise auctions, treasure hunts to sporting tournaments, there is a vast range of fundraising activities that you can organise. Events can also be used to raise awareness about the issue of Dalit trafficking. Proceeds should be sent to our North/West office. Be a Dalit Freedom Champion and start planning your fundraising event now.
[sponsored activities]
Here at DFN UK we encourage our supporters to be creative in their fundraising, whether that’s through sponsored activities, personal challenges, gifts on special occasions or other opportunities. You can set up a fundraising page online at Virgin Money Giving, selecting Dalit Freedom Network UK as your charity. Choose the kind of page that most suits what you are doing:
- Organised Event – choose this if you are taking part in any organised event to raise money for DFN UK eg marathons, parachute jumps
- Personal Challenge – if you are organizing your own event or setting a personal goal, choose this option. You may be doing a sponsored silence or losing weight to raise money for DFN UK.
- Special Occasion – if you are marking a special occasion – birthday, wedding, Christmas etc – choose this option
- Someone Special – pick this category if you are fundraising for DFN UK in memory of a loved one, for example.
Whichever option you pick, select Dalit Freedom Network UK as the charity to benefit. Virgin Money Giving provides help for setting up your fundraising page and telling your friends about it.
You can also set up a page on Just Giving and MyDonate and select Dalit Freedom Network as your charity.
We also have sponsorship forms available for you to download so that you can ask your friends face-to-face to sponsor you.
[more ideas for fundraising]
We have included ideas and tools for fundraising in our Dalit Freedom Action resource pack for Dalit Freedom Champions and Dalit Freedom Action Groups. We know that you will also have creative ideas of your own, so we will be encouraging and facilitating champions and action groups sharing their ideas throughout our network
[give as you spend]
Easyfundraising is a great way of benefiting DFN UK whenever you shop online. You can buy from over 2000 of the UK's best-known retailers including many popular names such as M&S, Argos, Debenhams, Amazon, John Lewis and HMV, and when you shop using the links on easyfundraising’s site up to 15% from every purchase you make will be donated to Dalit Freedom Network UK. Sign up at http://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/causes/dfnuk/ .
[purchase an anti-trafficking bracelet]
Made by Dalit women who are vulnerable to trafficking in India, these bracelets make attractive presents, provide employment to women who would otherwise be abused, and benefits DFN UK by 50p being donated from each bracelet purchased from Life's Treasures. The bracelets also make a great talking point to raise awareness about Dalit trafficking.
[use a charity credit card]
If you use a credit card as an effective way of managing your finances, then you could get a Virgin Charity Credit Card and choose Dalit Freedom Network UK as the charity to benefit when you use the card. Find out more here.
You can make a difference through your fundraising. Here at DFN we appreciate every pound raised and we are committed to making sure that it is used to bring freedom, hope and justice to India’s Dalits.
DFN UK is a member of the Fundraising Standards Board, so that you can give with confidence.
