Break the chains … of ritualised sex slavery

The first opportunity is a ground-breaking prevention and awareness programme to stop young children being dedicated as Joginis. Joginis are dedicated to a goddess and sold for sex when they reach puberty, condemned to a lifetime of ritualised prostitution. A 12-month pilot project is planned for a hundred villages in one district of Andhra Pradesh where it is alleged that every other day another girl is dedicated. The project will be community-based, developing good relations with local leaders, and working with the whole village. In addition to educating and informing, the programme will also use legal measures to prevent dedications where necessary. Find out more about the project here. You can also download the project information pack here.

You can help us to raise the £50,000 required to fund the pilot project, and follow its progress. You can make online donations here.

You can also donate £10 by mobile phone - text JOGN33 £10 to 70070.

DFN UK is a member of the Fundraising Standards Board, so that you can give with confidence.
