education

our schools

Our Good Shepherd Schools welcome all, regardless of background, faith or social status, but our primary focus is on children from poor and marginalised communities, such as Dalits and Adivasis..

Why?

The poor and marginalised have often felt excluded from quality education, yet it is the key to transforming their prospects and opening the doors to opportunities that would have been forever denied to them.

This is why we do what we do!

What?

Our mission is to ensure that education is accessible and transformational.

Changing hearts and minds

By basing education on a worldview that emphasises self-worth, dignity, freedom, equality and respect for all, we can lift these children out of oppressed and inferiority mindsets and empower them to break out of the cycle of poverty and exploitation.

Language of opportunity

English is still the language of opportunity in India. It is used in the justice system, higher education, government, commerce, etc. - yet it is often denied to poorer sections of the community, sometimes because they are deemed incapable of speaking the language. Yet making English the main language of the school, alongside lessons in Hindi and the local language, has proven the doubters wrong.

Ownership and accountability

Community leaders were very clear in their request – they wanted student’s families to pay a minimal monthly fee for their education. This helps to create a sense of ownership and accountability in the lives of the students and their parents, and engenders dignity, no matter how poor they are. The actual cost of their schooling is much higher than the requested school fees, which is why sponsorship is needed.

How?

We want to build more schools in South Asia to meet the demand from community leaders, as well as give more children this life-changing opportunity.
