Wondering what to buy for Christmas presents this year?

Dalit Freedom Network UK has launched a series of charity gifts in the form of gift vouchers that will help bring freedom to Dalit children.

You may have come across buying goats or cows to help provide a living for the poor; with Dalit Freedom Gift Vouchers you will be helping to prevent Dalit girls being sold for sex and trapped in ritual slavery. What better gift for Christmas than the gift of freedom and hope?

Vouchers are available for various amounts which will fund different aspects of a groundbreaking Jogini prevention and awareness programme in Andhra Pradesh, India.

Joginis are dedicated to a goddess as young children and then sold for sex when they reach puberty, condemned to a lifetime of ritualised prostitution. Through our programme, six Indian members of staff will spend a year working in a hundred villages in a district where it is believed that every other day another girl is dedicated as a Jogini. The team will pilot awareness materials and an intensive programme of events which they hope will be replicated in other districts.

£5 and £10 vouchers fund a frontline worker visiting 2-5 villages over 1 or 2 days. A £15 voucher will fund one awareness event in a village. £20 pays for awareness materials for one village over the year. £30 funds a month’s legal cost to prevent dedications. £40 will pay for one month of awareness events and £100 for three months in a village.
